At 44, just realized that the phrase “The Pot Calling the Kettle Black” is that the pot thinks the kettle is black because the black pot is reflecting off the kettle’s stainless steel surface. Also, It’s wild that the people who define what our national priorities are have different priorities than the nation.
Also, I am starting a random/weekly newsletter to cut down on emails I inundate people with, reduce clicks, reduce clutter, and sort of have a Uncle Fishbits Clearing House to help alleviate how messed up our lives our with email, etc. Like mind and body, you gotta put in the work. I *know* the hypocrisy of whining about tech addiction and then sending 100s of emails is insane. I want less of, well, everything. Reminds me of Robert Smith’s “Exploding Boy” and why he wrote the song (I drink too much, eat too much, think too much…ha! I’d like to explode. It would be a beautiful death. – Robert Smith on The Exploding Boy being himself, 1985). Honestly, it’s like Max Headroom’s “Blipverts”. Also, I don’t want to get into tangents…. but I am sort of surprised they haven’t made a literal real version of Running Man, yet.
BUT.. in doing the work to be better, I do sorta wonder if I burnt all your attention such there’s no way you’ll get through this, but in achieving balance and working to make other lives and my life overwhelmed with stuff… I’ll do it once, and in one place, and we’ll see how it goes.

Some of my recent posts
I had been in a pretty dark place, and actually had a pretty profound breakthrough. Sea change or “switch” moment of life, spun on a dime. I am writing much more now, so organizing a lot of it into a book that I’ve been writing, but also a long post than the below one. But I think it’s get the point across, with some Rick and Morty:
- You’re not going to see me talking about the intersection of Buddhism, suffering, the human condition, meaning and purpose, and the notion of a broader concept of leisure. - The VHS and One Sheet cover art for O’Bannon and Hooper’s Lifeforce makes me wish that’s all there was. But I rewatched it and it’s bad, but not as bad as I remember. MOVIES AND TELEVISION CONTENT
It’s wild when you enter that “we’re almost finishing this show and now we’re never going to have content like this that we love ever again”, but then a watershed moment opens and it rains down on you. First… we’ve turned to youtube content heavily. Seth Meyer’s a Closer Look is a nightly “Youtube on the TV” moment. But the science, the culture, etc… amazing stuff out there. I’ll try to highlight some great channels. One that isn’t too daunting is this… a deep dive into the magic of film by expert intelligence. Very popular, but if you slept on it, start with the Coen brothers one… Every Frame a Painting.
- “Calm” is a thing, and this gent’s YT channel of 4K space events and classical music is pure joy for streaming on the big TV.
- TV: A brighter and more optimistic version of Dark or Stranger Things, and also complex and weird enough it is definitely not for the kids, “Tales from the Loop” is the humanistic sci-fi fantasy you want right now. We’ve finished a lot of AAA shows lately, and w/ Better Call Saul leaving us, 25+ seasons of TV are on hold, and finding new stuff is scary. The Boys, which is hilarious, and Lauren agreeing to start the Expanse, well it’s the first time Amazon has held all our top tier programming. =) Well done, Amazon.
- Movies: If you like Rosemary’s Baby, Hereditary or Midsommar, or The VVitch… definitely watch the brilliant new director’s occult film “A Dark Song”. Just brilliantly done.
MUSIC
- NEIL YOUNG DID DAFT PUNK BEFORE DAFT PUNK in 1982… and it was REVILED, the label sued him, and Crazy Horse had ZERO IDEA:
info: https://ultimateclassicrock.com/30-years-ago-neil-youngs-trans-album-released/
- The Adagio for Spartacus and Phrygia by Khachaturian isn’t just my favorite piece, but inexplicably this beautiful shot and performed piece is the SLOWEST and most delightfully unrushed version I’d ever heard. I love the quote of someone else who said “Mozart made music for fancy rich people, and Khachaturian made music for the Gods”. This is why humanity should survive. This piece alone.
DAFT PUNK, 4K IMAX… ALIVE! CAST THE BIG GUYS TO THE BIG SCREEN MY FRIENDS
POLITICS

- Changing landscapes: malls were a boondoggle, and I think we’re onto mixed use dec of sports centers as the new investment boondoggle. that being said, community colleges and small colleges are going to fail harder than churches and a lot of weird real estate that will need to be reimagined will be coming up to market, and I wonder what we could create. WORTHLESS-VILLE!!
SOCIETY & CULTURE
- Should humans exist on a cosmic scale, or should we simply wait for the end of our sun and die?
Musk aside… Would like this as part of the discussion, existentially.

- In the “camping is a shit show” arena, you can’t let normal supply and demand drive up camping spots to price out, well, the people who need camping the most… so getting camping spots is like lining up for concert tickets in the 90s and setting 30 alarms and 90 calendar appointments. It is GARBAGE. What’s more is the money left on the table from empty sites booked on tues-thus for entitled people arriving Friday just booking the spot to hold it, and it goes unused. I could rage… but this is what we’re talking about: Want to go camping in Lake Tahoe this summer? It might already be too late. https://www.sfgate.com/renotahoe/article/camping-Lake-Tahoe-Bliss-State-Park-15997991.php

- This weird piece is short (the great links extend it, like the 1 star target reviews), interesting and curious…. but also charming in a way, tho I don’t adore brandlust. - I have to say, I was in F&B when Bourdain’s Kitchen Confidential came out, and I loved it, but I’d never tracked any of his travel shows just b/c “I get it”, and it’s how I travel. Now I need to watch it all, because this single Twitter thread reminded me of everything we’re excited to return to, and everything divine in life: traveling with a loved one and culturally learning about the world and people that are not you, and namely, EATING. “The prime aim of life is self discovery… to do so through pleasure is better than to do so through pain” – Oscar Wilde misquote…. but what a delight:

some social posts people liked this week
This week, there was some nostalgia train that hit me. Frustrating with looking at bad title cards on streaming services and bad watchlist UI, I miss going in with a friend or partner and picking a movie to watch, and going home to watch it. The Netflix “browse endlessly plan” is nice, but I JUST WANT TO WATCH SOMETHING. Also, I copy/pasted a bunch of Horror VHS covers from the 70s-90s because you know they all scarred us. I still am amazed in modern day that those covers were just everywhere. CAN’T WATCH THE MOVIE YET BUT HERE TAKE SOME PSYCHOLOGICAL DAMAGE WITH YOU. Speaking of:
