What a great list.
I realize that no one has made a competent adaptation of Brave New World, unless you include Demolition Man, which I won’t.
It’s a balance, or whatever, but that’s why District 9 might not make it. I think it fits, REALLY well…. the list might have been pre-D9 too. Clockwork Orange, as
well… it was a slice of society, but not the entire world, right? I would love to say a Boy and His Dog, but it’s too hard to watch. That’s dystopic. I would love to say District
13, but that’s just hot guys doing ninja shit. I think Serenity is one of the greatest sci-fi films ever made, but I am not so sure I would call it dystopic. I would love to say
Escape from New York too… but it’s got to be a whole dystopia, not a slice of society that sucks. Â What about Aeon Flux? I kid I kid….
Okay my Top 12 (to edit at my leisure and at random):
Idiocracy
Blade Runner
Brazil
Starship Troopers (The Fascists masquerading as noble humans.. I loved Verhovens Nazi propaganda layered over the Beverly Hills 90210 beautiful people)
Silent Running – I BAWLED… like broken sobbing bawling… at the end of this film. I saw it at about 11 years old.
They Live
City of Lost Children – the epitomy of the dsytopic fairy tale
Battle Royale
Robocop
12 Monkeys
Delicatessen
Children of Men (this is the real dystopia… this is what it will be like)
