No. Internet of Things. “An internet for things”. This is about google’s hardware struggles. Nest has some great designers (people heard of the ipod?), but it’s not about that. It’s about the other internet, right? These guys have the integrated “internet of things”, thing, down. Your car is about to tell your thermometer that you are 10 minutes away, and it will change from the energy efficient mode to the “I am badass and happy comfy as I walk into my home” mode. How about a fridge that notifies you every time your team scores a touchdown on Sunday? Or one that you never have to open because it uses RFID to track every goddam container and bit of info in the fridge. This is complex. THIS FRESH AIR FROM YESTERDAY ABOUT CYBERTHREATS IS SO IMPORTANT. http://www.npr.org/2014/01/14/262387292/what-everyone-needs-to-know-about-todays-cyberthreats Think of this… People in DC are Luddites, and flaunt it proudly. The Supreme Court is about to decide shit on net neutrality and NSA stuff, and they “haven’t gotten around to email”. Insane. Meanwhile, Nest with Google is about letting tech make people’s lives simpler, and letting them do what they want while the heavy lifting of tech is in the background http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/2014-01/15/google-nest good read on that.
