I had the Back to the Future “Where we’re going, we don’t need roads” line as the subject line for a bit, but once again Werner pops into life in an unexpected way.
This clip of Werner Herzog lives rent free in my mind. He’s SO AMAZING. If you don’t know him, come ON. But he’s a famous filmmaker and documentarian. His life is perhaps one of the craziest ever, and some people only know him from that Star Wars western on Disney+ with our boy Pedro.
He’s an international treasure. Also, Cave of Forgotten Dreams in 3D is one of the best usages of that technology in human history. Here’s typical Werner, I don’t speak that many languages. Then lists 8. Then talks about regretting speaking French, which possibly saved his life. He is quite incomprehensible.

- These AI Generated commercials are something else, like bad acid watching Adult Swim at 3am. I half suspect they are made to look like AI, so take this with a grain of salt.

- We Interviewed the Engineer Google Fired for Saying Its AI Had Come to Life “There’s a chance that — and I believe it is the case — that they have feelings and they can suffer and they can experience joy, and humans should at least keep that in mind when interacting with them.” https://futurism.com/blake-lemoine-google-interview
- Eek. “You said crossing the streams was bad!”
So, essentially the concern for the Pacific Northwest here is that the water leaking *into* the ocean at the precise point of the Cascadia Subduction zone means the two plates are basically becoming an air hockey table of lubrication such that it will slide, aka earthquake.
Fascinatingly, the hole is leaking water up into the ocean, not down into the earth below. In a press release, researchers at the University of Washington said the seabed hole off the coast of Oregon is located on top of the Cascadia Subduction Zone fault, and the fact that it’s leaking may not be a great omen for earthquake activity in the region. https://futurism.com/leak-bottom-ocean
I think you know the stellar reporting and history of this fault? The Atlantic piece with historic tsunami data all the way to Japan? If not, this is absolutely horrifying, akin to a real life disaster movie. But it is reality.

NATURE, ART, AND FUNCTIONAL DELIVERY OF ELECTRICITY
THE LAND OF GIANTS™ This design transforms mundane electrical pylons into statues on the Icelandic landscape. Making only minor alterations to well established steel-framed tower design, we have created a series of towers that are powerful, solemn and variable. These iconic pylon-figures will become monuments in the landscape. Seeing the pylon-figures will become an unforgettable experience, elevating the towers to something more than merely a functional design of necessity. https://choishine.com/Giants.html

Fortunately, we were all well equipped (arva/probe/skin/buffler/violet/stampons/ice pin and rope) and our buddy was able to start going out alone by the time we came to secure and help him out completely.
