This was in the newsletter, but I had to switch over because he’s important enough to me for a full post with most of his music that he has, so far, released. I very seriously think this guy might be the next Elton John or Bob Dylan or Paul Simon or Cat Stevens. Or he’s just written a few of the greatest modern pop (?) songs in recent history, and it’s heartbreaking work, but it’s staggering. Genius. =)
M.T. Hadley is hard to explain. He’s a bit outside my normal realm of music, but not by much. I can’t explain or justify the vibe, but he reminds me of an uncompromising creative that battles his own self-imposed standards and demons. Not sure that’s fair to say, but he reminds me of a creative like Jai Paul. Some people create for others. I believe he creates for himself. I already have had friends want to fight me because of this claim… I think he’s very new, and may end up being one of the greatest songwriters in multiple generations.
However, something VERY VERY special about his methods are his videos, which do multiple things: it sings the song, it tells the lyrics, it shows a visual story, and it is adorned with loving subtitles that explain the other aspects of the song and his memories in writing it. It’s very moving, and I want to share him with you.
Interestingly enough, his recent EP was recorded only on instruments 400 years or older. I would suggest you listen to “There Isn’t a Window I Won’t Look Out Of” and “You know when to Laugh” as well. https://asianmandan.com/2020/11/m-t-hadley-there-isnt-a-window-i-wont-look-out-of/
These are the multiple videos for a single song, a very interesting exercise:
A few more! =)
