The line is from John Dryden and his poem “Absalom and Achitophel”, written in heroic couplets in 1681. I’ll put the entire poem at the bottom. It’s a GREAT read. Also, a similar quote:

Also, I was going to title it this, but I wanted a source:
“It’s time to try radical love in every direction”
The line is apocryphal, I’d thought I’d known a source and now I can’t even find the quote, so maybe it’s a quote from me that I made up, I heard myself say, and attributed to myself and forgot. But I agree with myself, and am unanimous with my own thoughts.

This prescient and freaky quote that could be from last month is from 1879
Grant remarked that “if we are to have another contest in the near future of our national existence I predict that the dividing line will not be Mason & Dixon . . . but between patriotism & intelligence on the one side & superstition, ambition & ignorance on the other.” He went on to say, “Encourage free schools and resolve that not one dollar of money appropriated to their support . . . shall be appropriated to the support of any sectarian school.” Even though he did not include the word “Catholic” in his speech, many Catholic journals condemned Grant and claimed his use of terms like “superstition,” “ignorance,” and “sectarian” were direct attacks against their religion.

Debates about immigration are a diversion, and almost never in good faith.
But the whole point is that the elites and wealthy don’t want legitimacy in discourse. They want to stoke the fires of a culture war to protect themselves from a class war. Stupidity and the proliferation of proud ignorance always benefits the wealthy.
