Someone should write a play like The Producers or Book of Mormon about this current GOP. Do it like DC Follies crossed w/ Beach Blanket Babylon. Follow the rise of the Tea Party until about now. Be merciless like Don Rickles. It would be the longest running play in history.

ANYWAY….

This was quite an interesting Harmontown. A comic plays Bernie Sanders a bit, and Demorge is a regular and does a great Obama. After the first 20 minutes of a interview “bit”, they then start doing something they rarely do… talk left/right politics. Dan’s ranted about police, Ferguson, and righteousness, but they don’t really talk right vs left because Dan thinks its sorta like coke vs pepsi. But, this is 2015, and the fever of the election is ramping up… and obviously it’s way way different than coke and pepsi now.

I was talking to a contractor friend who used to flip houses, and he’s amazed at the prices and *him* being priced out. We were sort of both shocked how apparent it is that the powers that be are going to make damn sure that you can never buy a house if you’re under 35. It’s mind blowing. I like when Dan talks about political stuff because his mind doesn’t fall into that dialectical tension trap. I was just taking random notes, and thought some of the thoughts were interesting… (this was 2015, and now all the GOP talk about is Dr. Seuss, Pepe Le Puy, Genderfluid Potatohead, and now Legos as of yesterday).

It is *astonishing* to me that the party of national security, financial responsibility, law and order, personal responsibility, moral authority, anti-Russia, etc having zero platform on any important issues like mental health, gun violence, climate change, election security, voting security, national security, etc and talk about goddamned TOYS. Not to mention the legitimately insane reality show members of the house and senate, trying to get a viral clip for twitter vs actually doing things. There isn’t a day that I am not vibrating with anger about the 6th Jan Insurrection to take over our democracy, a true coup d’etat… and the aftermath. It’s so brutally rage inducing.

But as someone more cynical than me said, “The GOP will abandon democracy when it stops working for them”. I was like “COME ON”, and here we are.

—-2015… so think of where we are today… this was a known M.O. prior to Trump’s nomination. You forget the Tea Party. Unreal.—-

The modern Republican party doesn’t have a discernible ideology or set of policies aside of hostility to democracy, so they keep turning up fake panic. There’s this neocon thing about making enemies and starting arguments that aren’t there simply because they know the populists will vote for them no matter what. The tea party was the start of it, it sidetracked the GOP, and now here we are.

The tragedy for the Republican party is that they are hung up on this non-fiscal voodoo crap.

If America went out for the night it wouldn’t be to the opera or symphony, it would be the second row of a UFC fight. And, you would *never* hang out with America at a party.

We’re all “snooty and charcuterie”… End of the Roman Republic… we’re there.

Also, in an SF episode from earlier, Dan was talking about the Avian flu and Ebola, and he’s talked about being ready for something big coming. I know everyone did it, and hindsight is clearly 20/20. But, in this episode he says something again:

“All we hear about is super volcanoes and avian flu and Ebola and even political panic buttons. Soon instead of crushing brews with bros, we’ll be crushing bros with our brews” —> dumb I know, but silly is good.
