I usually use the header space to be aloof and goofy, but no… really. DEFINITELY try red wine chilled to cold. NO, you’re not allowed to put an ice cube. But in the last 5 years it’s become a trend, and now it’s more tasty than ever as the world melts into its tinderbox lifestyle.

As for content… the calving glaciers, and the one labeled “shooter” are must watches. The first two are really quick, and the footer breaking off from under the water to create the tidal wave is the scariest thing I’ve ever seen.

The Prague sculpture artist is AMAZING.

For the boys inside of us that like science fiction and video games, the 12 minute video comparing sizes of what seems to me to be every space ship from every show, film, or game in history is REALLY FUN, but it’s a complex work of art that is jaw dropping.

Oh and we have real flying cars now. So we got what we were promised right at the end of human time. Great.

SPACE

  • The Universe may have always existed, such that it was always there, always expanding, and there was no moment or “start”. Sort of beautiful –>

The concept of infinite expansion without a beginning may be difficult to wrap our heads around, but it kind of adds up. After all, it seems paradoxical to imagine a period in which the universe itself, and thus time, didn’t exist at all because you’re forced to wonder how long time didn’t exist for before it finally did. But, if time’s always existed – because the universe itself has always existed – then perhaps it’s never existed. What is time without a beginning or end? https://thenextweb.com/news/new-theory-says-universe-expanding-forever

SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

  • FIRST TEST FLIGHT OF FLYING CAR that crosses cities! This should go under “vehicles”, but our youthful optimism involved being promised FLYING CARS… and scitech delivers! So it’s up here:

  • Also the Skydrive Cart!vator:

  • Here’s the dream… and it’s not magic, but the sweeping ways it will change society and culture will be mind blowing, and impossible to predict. If this is of interest to you, note the past newsletter #0017 on the fusion reactors in the South of France and China:

Fusion & Magic Technology has created marvels that become everyday. Could that save us soon? By Andrew Blum “The promise of technology is the possibility of all its little innovations, those miracles that become commonplace, to amount to the grand magic of ongoing life on earth”. https://www.laphamsquarterly.org/technology/fusion-magic

“What can you conceive more silly and extravagant than to suppose a man racking his brains and studying night and day how to fly?”

—William Law, 1728

  • This is legit a headline from a cut screen of a futuristic action film:

After 15 years and $500m, the US Navy decides it doesn’t need shipboard railguns after all Pentagon feels it can counter Chinese electromagnetic projectiles with stuff it already has or will have shortly https://www.theregister.com/2021/07/07/us_navy_railguns

DAMN YOU SCARY NATURE

  • Dead Calm. Surveying. Pure quiet. Sure, some pillars are sliding into the ocean in the background… you can manage staying clear of surface level glacial calving. But what happens when a foot breaks off a glacier the size of a cruise ship? Panic Tsunami… this is unreal.

  • THIS SHOOTER! It starts exactly at the right time and is jaw dropping:

  • BUT THE BELOW IS THE LARGEST CALVING IN HISTORY… the SIZE OF SOUTHERN MANHATTAN CLEAVING for 75 minutes.

  • This is longer, like 8mins…. he’s talking about how stupid he was climbing this freestanding iceberg. “It’s safer to see the ice cubes in your gin and tonic, than seeing “ice cubes” fall on your face in the arctic”:

MOVIES AND CONTENTS

American films re-titled for foreign audiences don’t always hit the mark, but leads to hilarity.

  • This really cool starship size comparison is so well done. From the Tardas and Rick and Morty to Star Destroyers… It legit has every damned ship ever.

MUSIC

  • Marc Rebillet with Reggie Watts and Flying Lotus? Holy shit.

Society and Culture

  • I’ve waited my whole life to see footage like this. the 2015 Pan-Pacific World Fair in the Marina of San Francisco is hard to imagine… a city constructed for a fair that looked like ancient palaces everywhere, then unceremoniously dismantled and turned into houses. The Palace of Fine Arts are some of the only remaining bits. But besides Fatty Arbuckle’s movie, this is the most complete footage I’ve ever seen. Not to mention Taft, Coolidge, Henry Ford, and Edison hanging out.

  • I’m just putting this Arch Digest on Rebillet’s apartment style as an indication this guy has got to be way way more famous than I thought he was?

Musician Marc Rebillet’s Manhattan Apartment Is Sleek, Sexy, and Fun If you’re familiar with his music, this will come as no surprise https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/marc-rebillet-apartment-tour

  • Prague artist David Cerny, and his marvelously interesting sculptures… a few Kafka, a Freud, and more…

VEHICLES AKA RESTOMODS!

I’ve talked about it in the past… but man this is going to gain so much momentum. I’m hoping people don’t start blowing themselves up. Restomodded EV w/ autonomous driving should get interesting LOL. We’re a long ways off. Here’s a prior dive into the world: https://unclefishbits.com/restomods-or-restoration-modifications-to-older-classic-cars-is-about-to-have-a-renaissance-or-is-it/

  • Check out this resto-modded Hyundai Pony EV https://www.topgear.com/car-news/electric/check-out-resto-modded-hyundai-pony-ev

  • Restomodded Tesla drivetrain Porsche 912… donate to Peterson Automotive Museum, it’s a write off, and the chance to win this car… of a Ferrari, Blazer, BMW M3, and more. I may have done a wee bit more than I expected, but they through in a bunch of extra entries, so there’s that.
