If you believe EV’s are good for the environment, you need to reassess what you define as “good”. The Tesla is easily more polluting if it is charged from a coal fired plant. There are complexities here that marketing nor local buzz can account for, and we have to look closer.
Here’s a bunch of evidence that says, explicitly, the assumption about Tesla’s being good, is… bad.  I just got a new car that uses standard gasoline, and is made of aluminimum, with a curb weight about a 1/3 of a Tesla. It is, easily, less polluting. My old Jeep Wrangler which was produced in the mid 90’s for materials at a lower cost, manufactured at a time with less expenses, and without those heavy, dangerously polluting batteries.
If you thought car tire fires and piles was bad, where are all the batteries going to go? If the batteries aren’t bad, why are AA and C batteries such a disastrous pain to properly recycle in a way that won’t destroy landfills, etc?
Here’s evidence that talks about facts of the matter, from the Economist, wifely recognized as one of the most legitimate news sources in the world.
I am not saying they *aren’t* good for the environment. But I am saying it’s way more complex than that. In fact, if you really want to save the planet, you might need to check your mix of renewables and who’s “firing” your electricity, and realize that a 4 door Yaris on standard petrol will be far and away less polluting than a coal fired electric vehicle with a bunch of batteries and materials that are harmful, etc.
That’s it. Here’s a chart! It’s complex!
