okay… so I mentioned my review of the new daft, but all that aside…

The song Touch.

I think it’s important to single out Paul Willams’ track on the new album.

Paul wrote the love boat theme, the song “rainbow connection”, and has penned David Bowie tracks etc

TL;DR:

LISTEN!!!!!

The line “Hold on. If love is the answer, you’re home” is one of the most eloquent, beautiful, timely, and moving lines I have heard in a song in a decade, easily. Vulnerable, elegant, grace……

When it moves from the robots chorus to the child chorus, I admit like a sissy that I get choked up and teary eyed EVERY TIME. It’s so wonderful…. in this day and age of so much hate, judgement, etc. It’s just so moving, and hearing it from the Rainbow Connection gent makes it all the more powerful.

From what I have gotten from the song, it is the idea that a recorded human personality has been ported into a robot, and the robot is becoming self aware and remembers what it was like to intepret human feelings, and how important touch is to the human experience. Something it lacks, but may be gaining. His mind starts experiencing it, and it’s about the experience of touch talking to him, reminding him of love, life, etc.

If people stop talking about this goddam album as if it has anything to do with electronic music, instead of a pink floyd like WALL concept album, or at least a personal excursion away from expectation… you can see how wild some of the tracks and thoughts are. How indelibly important.

Apparently this song was the genesis for the entire album, let alone Paul’s Phantom of the Paradise as the reason for wearing the robot helmets. The comment about them not seeking the fame is well taken… enjoy thinking all you non-readers.
