I don’t know where else to put this. I also wonder what he would say about my words expressing his spoken thoughts. I just ran into him at the front desk of our hotel, and we chatted. I wonder if he would think my memory of him is crazy town.
I met him. Interesting guy. He spoke at a TED conference in Monterey. Interesting comments about the will to do something and mind over matter. He said something like this… The human instinct is to survive, so of course anyone is going to go to extremes to do so. It isn’t that you have to will yourself to cut off your own arm, it’s that you need to allow your mind to accept that your body is going to do it. It’s not active compulsion so much as coming to terms with what is about to happen. It’s not convincing yourself what to do so much as coming to terms with and understanding what’s going to happen. Ahhh.. the human condition.
