I did precisely what you said, and then had a lovely conference call where I explained myself more clearly than I have been able to in awhile.

Surface detail from subBlue on Vimeo.

A myriad of details in an evolving fractal landscape.

See the .mp4 download to see the full quality.

I’m currently working on a WebGL 3D fractal renderer that will let you explore structures like this in real time… stay tuned!

Update: The soundtrack is an original piece I made for the video. I’ve put it up on soundcloud: http://soundcloud.com/subblue/surface-detail

didn’t make sense.

like the concept that it was an original composition. sounded like the scene in 2001 right before the alarm went off on the moon.  I kept expecting to cover my ears and grasp my head like it was about to explode, and I didn’t even have a space suit on.
I enjoy that like I enjoyed staring at mandlebrot set computer images in the early 90’s.  Old school computer animation… you cannot beat it. Seriously.

This guy is lame, but that’s the doc I am talking about. I have it on VHS and it’s still UNBELIEVABLE. What? I wasn’t talking about a documentary?  But that’s what the above link is.  See… you gotta *clicky*.
Honestly, I don’t even think the mandlebrot set video was from *that* video, so I don’t know what I was talking about.
But yeah.  Good talk.
